It is with profound sadness that we share with you the untimely passing of our loving daughter, Joy Meetze Brewer, on May 31st, 2025. Her kindness, creativity, and beauty will forever be remembered by her parents, Joe and Sarah Meetze; son, Nicholas Brewer; aunt, Neta Bonaparte; aunts and uncles, David and Paula Meetze, Sandra and Milton Brant, Jean Carter, Faye and Wade Brown, Marie Ramsey, Anita Meetze and Suzanne Nickels; as well as many cousins and friends. While we miss her joyful spirit and helpful nature, we rejoice that she is now with her Savior, healed and happy to be with her favorite people: uncles, Andy Nickels and Johnny Ramsey; aunt, Loretta Meetze; cousins, Murray Meetze, Jason Brown, and Patty Meetze; grandmothers, Claire Nickels and Lucile Meetze; and grandfathers, Junnie Meetze and Claude Nickels.
A 1993 graduate of Irmo High School, Joy attended the College of Charleston and graduated with a double major in Education and Dance/Art, was on the President’s List, and was a founding member of ADPi sorority at CoC. She furthered her education at the University of South Carolina, becoming a published author.
Joy had a big heart for stray dogs, the downtrodden, and anyone in need. Even though she had limited resources, she would often buy drinks and burgers for the homeless. More than once, she stopped on the interstate to rescue a stray dog. Her prison ministry was a blessed encouragement to the incarcerated as she shared scripture and attempted to meet needs as able.
Despite all these achievements, she considered her greatest to be her son, who always brought immense happiness and pride. Joy’s zest for life dimmed as she was diagnosed with numerous health issues, which eventually took her life. Through it all, Joy kept the simile that would light up a room. She was appropriately named and will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, 609 Northwood Rd., Lexington SC, 29071, with visitation thereafter.
