Joseph "Joey" Ralph Lewis Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph “Joey” Ralph Lewis, who left this world on April 25, 2026, at the age of 59.

Born on July 4, 1966, Joey lived his life in a way that was impossible to ignore—he loved deeply, laughed loudly, and never held back when it came to the people he cared about. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a beloved “Peepaw” to his seven beautiful grandchildren, a caring brother, a beloved uncle, and a fiercely loyal friend.

He was the life of every room he walked into. He had a way of turning even the most serious or ordinary moments into something you couldn’t help but laugh at. He never let anyone live anything down—but somehow, even if you didn’t quite get his humor, you still found yourself laughing… because that’s just how he made you feel.

He would sit with you, talk with you, and give you advice for days—real, steady, meaningful advice that came from a place of love and experience. And if he ever said, “If you never listen to anything I’ve said, listen to me now…”—you knew to stop and hear every word.

Joey was a man who could fix anything. No matter what was broken, he would figure it out. And just as easily as he could fix things, he could connect with people—he never met a stranger and could make a friend anywhere he went.

Riding his motorcycle was one of his greatest joys. It gave him a sense of freedom he truly cherished.

More than anything, he loved his family - his presence filling the room and leaving memories we will carry with us always.

After a year of living with the loss of his youngest daughter, Hannah, in a way only a father could understand, he is now reunited with her. While there is comfort in knowing they are together again, it leaves behind an ache in our hearts that words will never fully touch.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Joy Lewis; his children, Joey Lewis and Chelsea Lewis Mangum ; his cherished grandchildren, Waylon, Brantley, Delanie, Delilah, Delance, Delora, and Declan; and his siblings, Dennis (Terri), Gary, Denise (Randy) and Michael (Sharon), along with nieces and nephews and many extended family members and friends who will forever carry his memory with them.

We will remember him in the laughter he left behind, the stories that will be told for years, and the unmistakable rumble of his Harley you could hear from miles away—but most importantly, in the unapologetic way he made life feel a little less serious.

And he always said that if something ever happened to him while riding, not to be sad—because he would have been doing something he truly loved. Those words bring us comfort now.

And that is exactly how we will remember him—free and full of life.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene 901 St. Andrews Rd Columbia, SC  at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
