Lexington-Funeral service for Joseph Moore, 96, will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2021 at West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bill Harmon officiating. Burial will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorial may be made to West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene 350 Wattling Road West Columbia, SC 29170 or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
Mr. Moore was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 9, 2021. He would frequently quote, “this is not my home, I’m just passing through.” Born on March 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Phillip and Carrie Craig Moore of Waynesboro, VA.
Having served in WWII he was a soldier with the First Special Service Force (Devil’s Brigade). He retired from the U. S. Army and suffered a long term battle with PTSD and pain from injuries sustained during combat. He received multiple medals, including the Purple Heart and Congressional Medal of Honor. Mr. Moore was a beloved father and grandfather and a committed member to the West Columbia First Church of the Nazarene.
Surviving include his loving wife of 72 years, Melveline Moore; children, Roy Moore (Donna), Walter Moore (Deborah), Frances McWilliams (Bob), Gary Moore (Linda), and Charles Moore; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by 3 brothers, 1 sister, and many friends.
