Jose L. Feliciano, 92, of West Columbia, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love and devoted care of his wife. Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with Pastor Devers officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born in Guayama, Puerto Rico, Jose began a life marked by faith, service, and dedication. At the age of twelve, he moved to New York City with his father and his eldest sister, Elsa, followed later by the rest of his immediate family. At eighteen, he answered the call to serve his country, beginning a distinguished military career that spanned twenty years. Jose proudly served four years in the United States Air Force and sixteen years in the United States Army, including wartime service during the Vietnam War. His assignments took him across the world to Okinawa, Ethiopia, Germany, and Iran—experiences that shaped his character and deepened his appreciation for the world beyond his homeland. Throughout these years and beyond, Jose was blessed to share a lifetime of love and adventure with his beloved “Honey,” traveling to many beautiful destinations across the United States and abroad. After concluding his military service, Jose continued his strong work ethic as an employee of Pontiac Foods, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. A man of deep and abiding faith, Jose loved his Lord and Savior and faithfully served at Grace Baptist Church. His ministry extended to the Hispanic congregation, jail ministry, print ministry, and the church maintenance team—quietly and humbly giving of his time, talents, and heart. His life bore witness to his servant’s spirit and unwavering commitment to others.
Jose leaves behind his devoted wife of 65 years, Josie Feliciano; daughters, Maria Martin (Bryan) and Celeste Perkins (David); grandchildren, Chloe Morton (Aldric), Caleb Martin, Sophia Whitaker (Andrew), Seth Martin (Laura), and Phoebe Perkins; and greatgrandchildren, Skylar and Myles Morton, and Elaina Whitaker. He is also survived by his cherished sister, Elsa Wertz of Palos Verdes Estates, California.
He was predeceased by his parents, Jose and Maria Feliciano; and his sisters, Norma Yost and Raquel Garcia.
Jose will be remembered for his steadfast faith, honorable service, loving devotion to family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Three Oaks Hospice for their compassionate care, comfort, and kindness during Jose’s final days. Their support brought great peace and reassurance and will always be deeply appreciated.
