Jones Rex Dula Obituary

Jones Rex Dula was 87 years old when he passed away on July 9th, 2025, at his home in Lexington, South Carolina. He was born in Yadkin Valley, North Carolina on May 28th, 1938. He was the son of Ralph Dula and Dare Watson.

He was the loving husband of his sweetheart Saundra “Kay” Dula for 67 years. He was the dedicated father of Debbie (Jorge) Dominguez, Alan (Lynn) Dula, and Vicki (Rob) Watford. He was the grandfather of Rex (Joe) Dula, Edgar Dula, Ashton Dula, and Sara Watford.

He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his brothers in arms Loel Ewart and Bob Garrett who served by his side in the 1/9 Air Cavalry Bullwhip Squadron.

He is predeceased by his brother, George Dula; and his sister, Brenda Nelson.

He found great comfort in his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He showed love and kindness to all he met. He demonstrated the best in humanity. He was a caregiver to all in his presence. Always there with a listening ear and shoulder to lean on. He was viewed as a hero by many and was a man of true excellence. He stood by his family with unwavering devotion. He served 28 and ½ years in the Army as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne and transitioned into a helicopter and fixed wing pilot throughout his career. He was a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran with 2 tours in Vietnam. In his retirement from the Army, he pursued a career of 18 years in the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. During which time he became a SLED officer and flew for SLED.

He truly enjoyed the fellowship and love he received from his Sunday school class at First Baptist of Lexington church.

There will be a visitation held at Barr- Price Funeral Home in his honor at 1:00 pm on July 18th, 2025, followed by a service at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at 1:00 pm on July 22, 2025 at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery.
