John R. "John Boy" Hartwell

Lexington- John Raymond "John Boy" Hartwell, 57, passed away on October 6, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Colorado on October 16, 1963, he was the son of the late Arnold Jacob and Patricia Harris Hartwell. He graduated from Airport High School in 1981, was a certified pipe fitter with Fluor Daniel for a good portion of his career and Double B in Gaston for two years. For the last five years, he was employed at the Gaston IGA, enjoying his work, making many lasting friendships that gave him much pleasure and a sense of belonging. He loved sports,  Rock ’n Roll and was an avid Clemson fan, cheering the Tigers on at every opportunity. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his stepmother, Josephine Hartwell; stepsister, Karen Mathis (Billy Ray); stepbrother, Charles Stokes; and special friends who cared for John in their home, Lewis Russ (Judy), Mary Thomas, Denise, Dalton and Josh Reynolds.

A memorial service will be held 3pm Saturday, October 23, 2021 at State Full Gospel Church, 200 State Pond Road, Gaston, SC. Light refreshments following the service.

A special thanks to staff and physicians at Lexington Medical Center and Agape Hospice for the excellent care they provided John in his time of need.
