LEXINGTON – Jack Clarke, 84, devoted husband, father, and grandfather—full of love and generosity—passed peacefully at his home on September 28, 2025, surrounded by his family after a five-month battle with lymphoma.
Jack was born on June 5, 1941, in Newark, NJ, to Martha Marr and John M. Clarke, Sr. He will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his deep love of helping others and caring for all God’s creations. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of strength, peace, and kindness. A true Gamecock fan, Jack always held out hope that “this would be their year,” while maintaining the patience to say, “there’s always next year.”
Jack proudly earned his Airborne wings while serving in the U.S. Army and went on to work for the government as a Court Reporter for over 35 years. Following his retirement, he devoted himself to serving others, giving countless hours to Meals on Wheels and Mission Lexington’s Food Pantry.
He is survived by his son, Shawn Clarke of Lexington, SC; his daughter, Shannon Derrick of Lexington, SC; and his four grandchildren, Isabella and McAyla Clarke, and Kate and Liam Derrick. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Hazel Isabelle Clarke.
Visitation will be held at Pisgah Lutheran Church at 10:00 a.m. on October 3, followed by a Service of Celebration at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to Mission Lexington or Pisgah Lutheran Church.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the compassionate team at Lexington Oncology, the caring staff of MSA Hospice, and his loving church family at Pisgah Lutheran Church for their support, prayers, and kindness during this time.
