John D. Owings

John D. Owings, 88, passed away on June 28, 2026. Born in Springfield, Illinois, to the late Felix  H. and Eleanor Elizabeth Frayer Owings.

John retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service, he also served 21 years in the Navy Civil Service. He was a member of VFW Post # 0172, former member of the Board of Trustees for Shiloh UMC as well as a former military policeman. He graduated from the FBI academy, served two tours in Vietnam and was a Sky Marshall from the U.S. to London.

John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Loretta Morris Owings, he was a devoted and caring father to his sons; John H. Owings (Sherri) and Donald Aaron Owings, grandchildren; Kyle Owings, Christopher Owings (Brittany) and Connor Owings, as well as four great-grandchildren; Olivia, Bella, Lola, and Scottie Owings.

Mr. Owings was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Owings.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Shiloh United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
