John Christopher “Chris” Blakely
December 3, 1971 – September 5, 2025
John Christopher Blakely, known to friends and family as Chris, passed away on September 5, 2025, at the age of 53 in Lexington, South Carolina.
Chris was born on December 3, 1971 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Growing up, Chris loved playing sports, especially football. After moving to Lexington, Chris went to Lexington High School, meeting some of his closest life long friends, who affectionately call him “Big Red”. He spent his life building meaningful connections with others, with a witty sense of humor and deep loyalty to the people and passions he loved. He dedicated many years to his work in retail, where he was known not just for his worth ethic, but for the friendships he built along the way. He enjoyed playing softball and spending time outside of work with his favorite coworkers.
A lifelong fan of the Florida State Seminoles, Chris rarely missed a game and wore garnet and gold with pride. He shared that passion with anyone willing to talk football and never hesitated to remind others of FSU's legacy. Alongside him through it all was his beloved dog, Chief — his loyal companion and sidekick.
Chris is survived by his loving daughters, Lauren Blakely-Hayes (Austin Hayes) and Megan Blakely; dog, Chief; brother, Michael Blakely (Jamie) and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on September 28, 2025 at the Lexington One Performing Arts Center in Lexington High School at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a local animal rescue organization or to a charity supporting Pancreatic Cancer Patients, in honor of Chris’s memory.
Chris will be remembered for his unwavering friendship and strength. His absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled, but his memory will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved him.
Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
