John B. Starr

John B. Starr, 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born on December 23, 1956 in Batesburg, South Carolina to the late Dr. William C. Starr, Jr. and Jeanette Gebelein Starr. John was a member of First Baptist Church of Batesburg, and worked in the automotive industry, where he was a master auto mechanic. In John’s free time, he loved to play golf and crafted starter golf clubs for children.

John leaves behind his son, Garrick Scott; daughters, Kasie Starr and Kelley Scott; brother, Carey Starr (Rocky); sisters, Mary Coleman, Carolyn Starr, and Julie Strausser (Robert); and grandson, Nathen Butcher. He is predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Spencer Starr.

His life was marked by simplicity and humility, and it is this spirit that will guide our remembrances of him.

Friends and family will gather to share stories and offer comfort to one another as we mourn his loss. Please join us for a drop-in-visitation at the home of his sister, Carolyn Starr; 457 East Church Street, Leesville SC 29070 on Thursday, January 22, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Batesburg, 436 West Church Street, Batesburg SC 29006. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the Starr family with arrangements.
