John Wendell Shealy, born June 26, 1944, to late Pope Wilson Shealy and Ollie Mae Dickert Shealy, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 21, 2025. Leaving behind his loving wife of 54 years Cynthia Ann Shealy. John worked for The Civil Service National Guard for 30 years and the Army National Guard for 40 years. He retired from the Civil Service National Guard in 2004. He loved his family and was a man of his word. He showed love to all who knew him. He loved working on cars and everyone knows he loved BBQing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Dedra Hickman (Michael); son, Kenneth Shealy; grandchildren, Dustin Hickman (Katelin), Jahuvn Benson, and Dalton Hickman; great grandchild, Erin Hickman; sister, Shirley Cook; and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Along with his parents he is predeceased by his sisters, Esther (Henry) Bickley, Leslie (Henry) Corley and Linda (Bill) Bedenbaugh; brothers, James Shealy, Henry Shealy, Edward (Doris) Shealy, Jack (Roxie) Shealy, Roderick Shealy; brother in law, Lanier Cook; niece, Sharon Cook; and nephew, Gregory Shealy
Visitation will be January 5, 2026 from 10 -11am. Funeral service will begin at 11am at Barr Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel. Pallbearers will be Dustin Hickman, Jahuvn Benson, Dalton Hickman, Travis Corley, Gaines Wansley, and Kenneth Sutton. Burial will follow the service at 2:00pm at Fort Jackson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Christian Fellowship Church 1712 Mobile Ave West Columbia, SC 29170.
