John Grady Slice, aged 77, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025. Born on December 16, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina, Grady
spent his life dedicated to his family and making them smile.
Grady was a notable figure in the commercial electrical business, first as the Master Electrician and VP of Seastrunk Electric and later as the counter salesperson at both
Southeastern Supply and Mayer Electric. Grady was not only known for his knowledge and skills of the trade, but also for his ability to connect with others on a personal level:
he never met a stranger. He loved people with his whole heart and always found ways to let them know how much he cared about their well-being.
While being an electrician was his career, his greatest treasures were his family. Grady met his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Lynn” Slice of 57 years, on the front lawn of Wardlaw
Junior High School in downtown Columbia. They began dating and upon graduation from high school, Uncle Sam took them to Fort Devins, Massachusetts, then to Okinawa,
Japan where they lived from November of 1969 to March of 1972. There, he faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army Security Agency. When they returned to the states,
they raised their only daughter, Terri Lynn, and eventually had the pleasure of building a multi-generational home on the waters of Lake Murray that had been in his family for
generations. This brought him great joy and satisfaction knowing that everyone would be together to watch over one another.
He is survived by loves of his life; Lynn, Terri Lynn, son-in-law, Chris, and his three smart, beautiful grandchildren, Emily Grace, Sam, and
Maggie Corley and a bonus granddaughter, Caroline Eckstrom, as well as his sister, Sheila Durst (Carl), nephew, Jason Commalander (Becky), and a number of cousins with
whom he had many fond memories of. His legacy will live on in all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, J.B. “Bunk” and Mildred Slice and numerous other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services are under the direction of Barr-Price Funeral Homes & Crematorium (Lexington). The family invites you to join them for a memorial service at Bethel
Lutheran Church, White Rock, on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. We encourage those who knew Grady to share their memories and upload photos to the memorial page, as a testament to his life and the love he shared with those around him.
