John L Mathews

On January 11, 2021, John L. Mathews was escorted into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on April 2, 1937 in Bath, South Carolina, to the late George and Thelma Matthews.

John L was known for his unending love for his Savior, his family, and his work in God’s kingdom. He was raised in Langley Church of God and was a member of several Churches of God throughout the years; Swansea CoG, Pine Ridge CoG, City of Hope (FKA West Columbia CoG,) and Gilbert CoG, to name a few. With most of these churches he was involved in their building or remodeling programs. John L was also known in Aiken and the Columbia area for his many years of working in electrical sales.

John L is survived by his children, Janet (Chip) Eleazer, Jonathan (Shannon) Mathews; daughter-in-law, Teresa Mathews; his grandchildren, Daniel Mathews, Brandon (Moriah) Mathews, Joshua Mathews, Jessica (Josiah) Murphy, and Ashton Eleazer;  great-grandson, Carson Mathews; and his beloved nieces and nephews, George, Kyle, Sylvia, Jack, and Karen, all of whom were raised alongside him.

John L was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Shelby; son, Carlton; sisters, MaryLou Corley, and George Era Giacobone Lowe; and nephew, Frances and brother-in-law Tony Giacobone.

Friends who want to pay their respects may visit Barr-Price Funeral Home at 609 Northwood Rd, Lexington, SC 29072 on Wednesday January 13, 2021 during the hours of 12:00-6:00pm.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a private graveside service at Woodridge Memorial Park at 138 Corley Mill Road Lexington SC 29072.
