Jimmy Perry Smith

Jimmy Perry Smith, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Artie Perry and Ila Mae Smith.  He was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean Shealy Smith. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Sheree (Robert) Steading, Karen (Brian) Buckley, and Janis (Kevin) Baker; 6 grandchildren, Tony Steading, Ashley Boone (Todd), Heather McCarty (Evan), Deron Burgess (Bethany), Peri and Carli Baker; and 7 great grandchildren, Hunter Steading, McKenzie Steading, Alyssa Barbee, Joslyn Barbee, Audrey Burgess, Amelia McCarty, and Cora McCarty. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Broadus Smith and Louise Hite.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to Mary Gadson (private caregiver), Hank Litchman, Ray and Peggy Smith, Pastor David Goforth of Grace Baptist Church in West Columbia, and the nursing staff at Heart of Hospice. 

We also extend a heartfelt thanks to all family and friends for their many prayers, phone calls, and messages providing emotional support and encouragement.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Friday, November 3, 2023 with a 2:00 pm funeral service to follow at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel. Burial will be held at Celestial Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
