Jhue (Smitty) Smith, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the age of 89 in Columbia, SC. He was one of three brothers born in Whitmire, SC to Edna and Leo Smith.
He was married to his wife Frances Lee Smith for 66 years. They met on base at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC.
He was the father of three daughters Rhonda Nelson (Robert), Lynette Likes (Rod), and Laura Moak (Darrel). He has four grandchildren, Michael Brooks, Jr., Renee Nelson, Christopher Moak, and Ashlie Bradley, and six great-grandchildren.
Master Sergeant Jhue Smith served as a ground radio specialist in the US Military for 30 years in 6 different states; South Carolina, Maryland, Georgia, New Jersey, Alabama and Mississippi and 5 different foreign countries that included Japan, Italy, Libya, the Philippines and Thailand. He received a US Air Force Commendation Medal in 1975. After his retirement from service he ran two different TV repair shops, one was on the base at Fort Jackson.
Smitty was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa that loved his family with all his heart and was always happy to help with anything having to do with, cars, trucks or computers. He was a self taught photography and computer whiz. He was devoted to his family and to all the birds in his backyard.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Lynette.
