Lexington, SC. - Jerry L. Drake, 63, of Lexington, SC., died on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at home. Born in Newton, NJ, on July 20th 1958, Jerry grew up with 2 siblings, his late brother Howard popularly known as Billy and his sister Terri. Jerry graduated from Newton High School in 1976, and pursued his career with Law Enforcement when he moved to Lexington SC several years later. Jerry began his career at the Department of Corrections, where he left as a Sergeant. After those six years he finished out his career with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy. Outside of his career, Jerry was quite the horticulturist and family man. He thoroughly enjoyed spending his time outside tending to his home and beloved pets. It always made him the happiest spending time with his children and grandchildren.
A son of the late Howard W. Drake, Jr. and Carolyn E. (Martin) Drake, Jerry is survived by his wife of 19 years, Shelia L Drake; his children, Erin Buser (Scott) of New Jersey, Austin W Drake of Batesburg, SC; Ashley M Drake (Brock) of West Columbia, SC, Andrew L Drake (Breanna) of Simpsonville, SC, Travis Lloyd of Gaston, SC; Sara E Hutto (Brent) of West Columbia, SC, Taylor Morales (Jonathan) of West Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, Adrian, Emma, Joshua, Owen, Charlotte, Maddie, Beckett, Nolan, Elliot, and Addison; his sister, Terri D Gruver (Joe); sister-in-law, Adele J. Drake; and his best friend of over 20 years, John Esposito.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022, from 1:00pm-3:00pm with a 3:00pm funeral service at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Rd, Lexington, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Howard W. Drake III Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 3500 Jersey City, NJ 07303.
