Lexington-On Saturday, February 24, heaven gained another Angel. Jennie Bruce Porth Koon, 94, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior and late husband, Reverend Carl B. Koon. She was a member of Lake Murray Baptist Church and Lake Murray Community Center. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile, hard work and willingness to help others.
She was reared on a farm and was the daughter of the late Oliver M. Porth and Ida Mae Leaphart Porth. She loved to play scrabble with her sisters, bowl, fish, play the piano and work in her yard.
She was a self taught musician, having never had a lesson. She played the piano or organ at many of the churches that her husband pastored. She played for a group of friends who got together monthly to sing old hymns.
She is survived by her sister, Elsie P. Shealy of Lexington, sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Koon (Kathy), Ted Koon (Cheryl), Steven Koon (Jennie) and Rev. George Koon (Deborah) all of Lexington, grandchildren, Bruce Koon (Karen), Travis Koon (Anna), Jonathan Koon (Misty), Jason Koon (Malissa), Bryson Koon (Nikki), Allison Koon Powell (Rev. Josh), Jody Koon (Lynette), Jennifer Koon all of Lexington and Kristopher Koon of Nashville, Tennessee, 22 great grands, 3 great great grands and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law, Boice and Mary Alice Porth, Lucius and Edna Porth, sister and brothers-in-law, Mavis and Bill Monts and Ryan Shealy, grandkids, Kevin Koon, Carla Koon Carnes, great great grandchild, Charlie Benton Koon.
Services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday February 27, 2018 at Lake Murray Baptist Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Murray Baptist Church India or David Davis Brazil Fund.
