With a heart as big as his love for the Carolina Gamecocks, James Russell Miller stepped into the next level of his grand adventure on July 17, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC on November 8, 1954, James was the supportive pillar of his family and a friend to all who crossed his path. Known for his loving spirit and a charming sense of humor, he turned every encounter into a memorable one. Living his entire life in Lexington County, SC, he had a passion for his community that was as enduring as his love for computers, gaming, and baseball.
James was the epitome of a happy nerd. He built a successful career as a Plant Manager in the Commercial Laundry industry, but his real joy came from being a master strategist in Call of Duty and going on cruises. He took great pride in his gaming skills, and his competitiveness was only matched by his sportsmanship. He was always ready for a good game, a good laugh, and a good cruise. Married to the love of his life, Deena, James was a supportive and loving husband, always there to cheer her on and bring a smile to her face. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and plenty of gaming marathons.
James is survived by his wife of 47 years Deena, and their 3 children; sons Andy Strickland (Emily), Matthew Strickland (Tamera) and daughter Amanda Leach. He had 7 grandchildren that called him “Grandpa”, Kaleb Barr, Alyson and Baylee Leach, Breanna, Carson, Brendan, Lily Strickland and 2 great grands. He was very happy that his children and grandchildren inherited his love for Carolina Gamecocks and all things “nerdy”. He also leaves behind two brothers Doug (Yevonne) and Michael Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clarence Miller and Myrtle Backman, Stephen and Donald Miller The love and guidance of his family shaped James into the wonderful man that he was.
James's life will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 6:00 pm at Barr-Price Funeral Homes & Crematorium in Lexington, located at 609 Northwood Road, Lexington, South Carolina, 29072. The family welcomes all who knew James and shared in his life's journey to join in remembering and celebrating this remarkable man.
