Funeral services for James Edward “Jim” Lewis Sr., 80, will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at Pond Branch Methodist Church with the Rev. Drew Martin officiating and Pastor Jerry Davis assisting. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Home Care, 949 East Main Street, Lexington SC 29072 or to Interim HealthCare of Greenville, 100 Verdae Boulevard, Suite 300, Greenville, SC 29607. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Lewis went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Born in Joanna, SC, he was a son of the late John Richard Sr. and Ruby Elliott Lewis. Jim was a graduate of the University of South Carolina, where he received his undergraduate degree in 1974 and his Masters in Civil Engineering in 1978. He also earned his Juris Doctorate in law from Concorde University, California in 2006. His career with Wilbur Smith Associates spanned 40 years. Jim was Senior Vice President, National and International Engineer, later becoming a litigation adviser, as well. Jim loved to play golf and took great pride in teaching wounded veterans how to play the game. He was a Guardian ad Litem, member of American Society of Civil Engineers, and International Club of WSA. He was an active member of Pond Branch Methodist Church where he served on the church archive and cemetery committees. Jim was a Vietnam Air Force Veteran, Security Police Division, earning the rank of Sergeant (E4) with many citations and commendations.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Kay Lewis; children, James Edward Lewis Jr. (Gloria), Christopher Joseph Lewis, Tracie Ann Zarpentine (James), James Steven Black (Rhonda), and Jimmy Shawn Black (Heather); brother, George Danny Lewis (Ann Davis); sisters, Gladys Kay Shaw (Doug) and Susan Carol Simpson; grandchildren, Mikayla Thomas (Jared), William Shawn Black, Zachary Clark Zarpentine, Christopher James Zarpentine, James Richard Lewis, and Noelle Lane Black; great-grandchildren, Ellison and baby girl due in December; plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, John Richard Jr. (Willa Rae).
The family would like to thank Nina Eger and Iryna Khaylo for their kindness and loving care given to Jim during his illness. The family also appreciates the caregivers from McLeod Home Care and Interim Hospice for their much needed help, kindness, and compassion given during the last few days of Jim’s life.
