James “Jim” Edwin Corley, Sr., 89, of Lexington, South Carolina passed away peacefully on June 26, 2022 at his home after a brief illness with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and his faithful dog, Toby.
Born in Gilbert, South Carolina on October 22, 1932, he joined the Navy out of high school, served four years and was stationed at the South Pole for Operation Deep Freeze. After his time with the Navy, Jim joined the Southern Bell family as a lineman and retired in 1987 after more than 30 years of service. Jim will be remembered for his kindness, his love of family and church, his love of dogs and horses, and Ford Mustangs.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Corley; sons James E. Corley Jr. (Willette); Jeffery R. Corley; and daughters Lori Fite Rose (Robert), Polly McCutcheon (Arthur) and Nancie C. Seely (Scott), as well as his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at St. James Lutheran Church Summit, 308 Church Street, Leesville, South Carolina. The family will receive visitors after the service at the graveside.
