James Hampton Hoover of Gaston, South Carolina, passed away on April 21, 2026. Born on May 28, 1938, James’ wisdom, compassion, and unwavering courage will be deeply missed and cherished.
James is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Emily Hoover; his sons, Jimmy Hoover (Linda) and Ricky Hoover; stepchildren, Amanda Shaw (Jason), Leslie Griffiths (Clint), Dana Hooks, Lauren Anderson (Neal); granddaughter, Amber Hoover; and numerous other cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
James was predeceased by his parents, Dewey and Lila Hoover; his siblings, John Hoover, Harvey Hoover (Miriam), and Hilda Waters; previous wives, Maryann Purvis and Patsy Hoover; son, Todd Hoover; daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Hoover; and granddaughter, Alicia Garnsey.
A memorial service will be held May 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4560 US321, Gaston, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to this Kingdom Hall or JW.org.
The family gives many thanks to the staff of Prisma Health Hospice, especially Dr. G, nurse Dee, and aide Jackie.
