James Duncan Singleton, born September 3, 1938, in Conway, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. A long-time resident of West Columbia, South Carolina, he lived there for 25 years and built a life filled with love, family, and community.
James proudly served his country for 27 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1986 as a Chief Cryptologician. Following active duty, James was employed as a civilian Maritime Intelligence Officer with the Office of Naval Intelligence in Washington, D.C. and U.S. Central Command at MacDill AFB, Florida. He dedicated his career to serving with honor and distinction before retiring. A dedicated Mason, James was a Past Master of Milton C. Marvin Lodge No. 123 (Guam) and a lifetime member of Conway Lodge No. 65 (South Carolina). He was also affiliated with the Miami Scottish Rite and the Aloha Shrine Temple in Honolulu."
James was a devoted husband to Perlita Singleton and cherished the life they shared together.
James was predeceased by his parents, Joe D. and Versie Singleton of the Toddsville/Martin Hill section of Horry County SC; brothers, Charles Singleton, Alvin Singleton, Lewis Singleton and Winston Singleton; and sisters, Laura Belle Hardee, Ruby Elda Rackley, Bettie Louise Bennett and Nina Rhea Holmes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Perlita Micu Singleton; brother, Dwayne Singleton (Carolyn) of Conway, SC; his two daughters, Mary Jane Singleton of Mount Pleasant SC and Judy S. Jarrell (Thomas) of North Augusta, SC; son, Joey M. Singleton of Columbia, SC; two granddaughters, Megan Cook of Swansea, SC and Peyton Mitchell of Winston-Salem, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, 609 Northwood Road Lexington, SC 29072. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jake Bolotano officiating. James will be laid to rest at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 29229, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to visit his memorial page to share memories, tributes, and photographs, offering comfort to all who loved him during this time of loss.
