James Matthew Holley, Jr., "Matt," 29, of Lexington, SC, entered into eternal rest on May 18, 2023. Despite bravely and tirelessly battling with health issues most of his life, Matt had an undying passion for living, and those he cared about. An avid lover of music and travel, Matt enjoyed spending his time traveling with his wife, Felicia, and their dog, Luna, to see his favorite bands perform. Matt had an incredible connection to nature, and enjoyed spending time outdoors camping, fishing, kayaking, and unwinding at the beach. Matt was an incredibly creative and talented individual, and would spend most of his day’s woodworking, networking with the latest technology, or mastering the stock market as a day trader. Matt's zeal for life influenced every second, and he enjoyed taking time to appreciate the simple wonders of life, such as watching a summer storm, and working in his garden. Matt often possessed a wisdom beyond his years and was never shy about sharing his opinions, even if that meant frustrating the people in his life; he always had the best intentions and truly wanted the best for those he cared about. An eternal realist, everyone in his life knew that you could come to Matt for honest and truthful feedback...but that didn't mean you would always like it. Matt possessed an unyielding love for his family, especially his niece, nephews and young cousins, and was always intent on being a source of love and support for them as he watched them grow into amazing and loving people. As a small business owner, Matt was passionate about learning all he could about 3D printing, and was driven to make an impact as an entrepreneur. As he began to struggle more with his health, Matt was devoted and dedicated to creating a legacy that would live on after him; He achieved that goal and more. Today, Matt's legacy lives on with his family and loved ones who will always cherish their memories with him, the friends who will forever be changed for knowing him, and any individual that had the great pleasure of meeting and loving him.
Matt was met in paradise by his mother, Sharon D. Shumpert-Johnson. Matt is survived by his wife, Felicia Dejournet, his father, James [Angela] Holley Sr., his sister, Kristin Holley-Gilpatrick [Davis], his niece and nephews, Dyson, and Sharon Gilpatrick and Jace Davis, his grandparents: Binky and Clyde Shumpert, Yvonne and Roger Thomas, and Paul and Sherry Holley, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins whom he loved tirelessly.
