James H. Brown, 89, passed away March 22, 2020. He was born on September 3, 1930 in Columbia, South Carolina, son of the late Paul and Katie Brown. He graduated Dreher High School and went on to join the U.S. Navy and attended basic training at Treasure Island, San Diego, CA in 1949. From there, he transferred to the U.S.S. Repose and served in the Korean War as a Yeoman. He married Marlene Burton on Oct 5, 1956 and they had three children together. James and Marlene were married nearly 60 years until her passing in 2016.
James Brown attended both the University of South Carolina and the School of Banking of the South in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from which he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He was an auditor at First National Bank which later became Wachovia, and retired as Chief Auditor in 1991.
Not only did James have a successful career, but he also had a family that adored him. His favorite pastimes included gardening, fishing, cruising on his pontoon and of course enjoying his beloved sunsets on the back porch.
He is survived by his three children, David, Mark (Julie), and Sara; grand-daughters, Jennifer, Carann, Emily, Colleen (Bryan), and Erin; sister, Margaret Smith and brother, William Brown.
Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel has arranged a private graveside service for the family. All are invited for viewing at the funeral home on an individual basis until Friday morning, March 27th.
