James Everett Cockrell, widely known and loved as Bubba, was born on the 18th of February, 1941 in the quiet town of Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina. A man of remarkable character and unwavering integrity, he spent most of his life in the heart of West Columbia, making an indelible impact on the community and the lives of those he touched. It is with profound sadness that we announce his passing on August 4, 2025.
James embarked on his journey in telecommunications as a repairman, a role he fulfilled with dedication and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
He shared a beautiful bond of love and companionship with his beloved wife, Angela Cockrell; sons, Alan (Barbara) Cockrell and Brian (Tracy) Cockrell. He was blessed to have several grandchildren and great grandchildren that he loved dearly; sisters, Patricia Cockrell (Boykin) Roseborough and Jean Cockrell (Richard) Couillard. His ability to find joy in the simple things, his unwavering faith, and his love for his family will forever remain etched in our hearts.
James was predeceased by his parents, Lewis and Adele Cockrell.
Funeral service will be held 11am Friday, August 8, 2025 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church 2491 Emanuel Church Road West Columbia, SC 29170. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am prior to the service at the church. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
