In Loving Memory of James Douglas Ard

James Douglas Ard, born on September 25, 1953, to Howard Carlton and Virgie Lee Ard, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026, at the age of 72.

James lived a life defined by service, dedication, faith, and love for his family. He was a man of strength and character who devoted himself to caring for others and making a positive difference in the lives of those around him.

James shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with his loving wife, Barbara Ard. Together, they built a life filled with love, devotion, family, and countless memories that will be treasured forever.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his daughters, Kary Michele Dufault (Paul) and Stacey Nicole Walling (John); along with his grandchildren, Emily Dufault, Logan Walling, Madelyn Dufault, and Sarah Walling. His love, guidance, and the lessons he shared will continue to live on through his family for generations to come.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Virgie Ard; his in-laws, Carl and Barbara McArthur; and his brothers, David and Durane.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army for 26 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major (E-9). During his distinguished military career, he served in Georgia, Hawaii, Korea, Virginia, California, and South Carolina.

Throughout his Army career, James served as a Drill Sergeant, as a member of the President's Guard, and in the Airborne Infantry. He took great pride in caring for his soldiers and always put their well-being before his own. His leadership, compassion, and dedication to those under his command reflected the character of the man he was.

After retiring from the Army, James began a second career with Home Depot, lasting 26-years, where he shared his knowledge, experience, and friendship with many.

He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lexington and a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association of South Carolina.

James enjoyed the things that brought him happiness and adventure. He loved traveling with family and friends, fast cars, riding his motorcycle, working outside in his yard, and spending time at the beach. He took pride in caring for his home and enjoyed creating memories with the people he loved.

Above all, James was a servant at heart. Whether supporting his family, caring for his soldiers, or helping those around him, he always placed others before himself.

James Douglas Ard leaves behind a legacy of honor, faith, service, love, and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and forever remembered by the many lives he touched.

Friends, family, and others whose lives were touched by James are invited to the Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2026 at First Baptist Church of Lexington, 415 Barr Rd., Lexington, SC 29072 with Pastor Ralph Schneck officiating.
