James Smith Obituary

A memorial service for James Andrew Smith, 92, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held at a later time at St. David’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Mr. Smith passed away Friday, October 8, 2021. Born in Gilbert, he was the son of the late Albert and Essie Mae Autrey Smith.

At an early age, he became a Marine where he served between December of 1946 to December of 1949. He earned the Victory and Good Conduct Medals while serving In World War II. He also earned a Korean Service Medal.

He owned his own Construction company, and became an expert backhoe operator.  Mr. Smith was considered a man that liked to do stuff with his hands, loved music of all forms.   He very much enjoyed traveling, as well as working, worldwide and over seas.

His love of family and the times together showed in his smile, and he would enjoy this as often as he could.  Most of his memories included his loved ones.  His love for God and for others to know Him  was the same as he showed in his relationships.  He was a loving and wonderful father and grandfather.

He is survived by his sons, Larry Smith, Frank Smith, Dan Smith, Rodney Dooley (Donna) and Carroll Dooley; daughters, Ginger Pettyjohn (George), Sandy Benton (Dar), Valerie Deller, and Rachel Hill; brother, Wilbert Smith; sisters, Ola Mae Steele (Eddie), Mary Wingard, and Faye Cook (R.C.); and numerous grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wives, Barbara Rhea and Sybil Smith; daughter, Kathy Kyzer; and brothers, Julius Smith, Thomas Smith, Gene Smith and Johnny Smith.
