Horace Del Roberts

Swansea, SC - Horace Del Roberts, 70, died unexpectedly October 18, 2020 at his residence. He was born December 11, 1949 in Lincolnton, North Carolina, the son of the late Horace William and Grace Elizabeth Tripp Roberts.

Del enlisted in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid during the Vietnam War. He subsequently served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force National Guards until his retirement following 23 years of dedicated service.  Del received a Bachelor of Science from William Paterson College and a Master of Arts from Central Wesleyan College. Del was employed and retired from the United States Department of Agriculture as a Human Resources Investigator. He also worked at the South Carolina and New Jersey Department of Corrections.

Del is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan “Sue” Duryea Roberts; his children, Dawn Roberts Patterson (William), Noelle Roberts Gosnell (Daniel), Jeffrey Todd Roberts (Leah), and Elizabeth Roberts Melton (Michael); his grandchildren, Carter, Emily, Tripp, and Michael were a special blessing; and his siblings, William “Reese” Roberts (Carole), Thomas Gary Roberts (Mary), Kathy Nora Roberts Tricarico (Paul), Thurman Arthur Roberts (Kathryn), Kenneth “Kenny” Roger Roberts (Marcie). He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Peggy Lee Neill (Fred) and Sarah Diane Roberts Tahan (Ray).

In addition to being a Free Mason, a loving husband, father and grandfather, Del enjoyed camping, traveling, fishing, Clemson football, and cutting grass.

A service of remembrance will held at 2:00 pm on October 22, 2020 at Sardis Baptist Church located at 1601 St. Matthews Road, Swansea, South Carolina 29106. Those who would like to remember Del in a special way, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Sardis Baptist Church.  Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
