It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Heather Jessica Pruett, who left us on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at the age of 37. She was a beloved partner, daughter, mother, sister, friend, and a cherished member of the VFW 6740 community.
Heather Jessica Pruett was born on September 11, 1987 in Conway, South Carolina to her father Michael Derek Pruett and mother Rebecca Burkett Welch. Throughout her life, Heather shared her passion for selflessly giving through volunteer work supporting military families, service members, and veterans. She tirelessly worked as an advocate for mental health, bringing awareness to the impact of veteran suicide and developed her own non-profit, The 5;8 Project. Beyond volunteering, Heather enjoyed time with her animals, crafting, thrifting, and dedicated much of her energy and creativity to making the VFW Post 6740 a home for many. Heather embodied the qualities of resilience, strength, and generosity during her time here on Earth and her impact, love, and passion for life is felt by many.
She is survived by her boyfriend–Kevin Crapps; her son–Derek Brycen Knowles; her mother–Becky Welch; and her brother–Hunter Welch. She was predeceased by her father–Derek Pruett.
A graveside memorial service will be held 12:00 noon Friday, April 4, 2025 at Southland Memorial Gardens (700 West Dunbar Rd W. Columbia, SC 29170). Her Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Lake Murray VFW 6740 (950 Rock N Creek Rd Leesville, SC 29070). Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
