Hazel Jane Gault Martin, a devoted mother, beloved wife, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on May 6, 1940, to the late James Newton Moore and Dorothy Bates Moore, Hazel (Jane) grew up with a deep love for music, faith, and family. She graduated from Union High School and with a remarkable talent for piano earned a scholarship to Winthrop College. She instilled her passion for music in her children.
Hazel (Jane) was married to Sidney Walton Gault, Sr., with whom she shared four beloved children. In later years, she found love again and was blessed to share her life with her husband, John Martin.
She was a devoted mother to Leslie Gault Mendelsohn and her husband Paul, Sidney Walton Gault, Jr. and his husband Steve, Joseph Timothy Gault, and Elizabeth Jane Gault.
She is survived by her husband, John Martin; her children, Leslie Gault Mendelsohn (Paul), Sidney Gault, Jr. (Steve), Elizabeth Jane Gault; her grandson, Cory Alexander Martin; her niece, Lisa; her great nieces, Emily Johnson (Jason), April Reeves (Carl); great nephews, J.J. Reeves and James Johnson.
She was predeceased by many dear family members, including her parents; her brother, James Preston Moore; her sister-in-law, Margaret Patricia Moore; her nephew James Preston Moore Jr.; her nieces, Pamela Moore and Susan Robertson (Jimmy); her first husband, Sidney Walton Gault, Sr.; her son, Joseph Timothy Gault,; and her stepson, John Martin Jr.
A dedicated professional, Hazel (Jane) had a successful career in wealth management, working for several banks in Tennessee and South Carolina before serving with Lexington School Districts Five and One. Her intelligence, integrity, and kind spirit left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike.
A woman of deep faith, Hazel (Jane) was a devoted member of Providence Lutheran Church, where she was blessed with a loving church family and many precious friends. Her unwavering kindness, strength, and grace touched the lives of all who knew her.
Hazel’s (Jane’s) legacy of love, faith, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Providence Lutheran Church, 840 Old Chapin Road, Lexington, SC. Following the service, the family will receive friends and family at a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
