On Thursday, June 1, 2023 Harvey Lewis Russ was called home to be with the Lord. He was born December 4, 1945, in Gaston, SC to the late Lewis Russ and Mary Elizabeth Aaron Russ. He was a carpenter/construction worker by trade. Most of his career was working with Daniel’s Construction.
Lewis is survived by his three children: Denneauh “Dee Dee” Wich (Blair), Dana Sulser (Kyle), Harvey “Jody” Russ; two step-daughters: Cyndi Hess, Denise Reynolds; nine grandchildren: Steven Sulser, Richard Wich, Zachary Sulser, Jarod Wich, McKenzie Keisler, Jackson Wich, Elizabeth Wich, Joshua Reynolds, Dalton Reynolds; four great-grandchildren: William, Kallem, Paisley, Hailie; his beloved sister, Mary Lou Crosland; niece, April Shumpert; nephew, Russell “Rusty” Leray Hubbard; and very special friend, Mary Thomas.
Lewis was predeceased by his parents; sister, Theatus Mae Hubbard; son, Wayne Russ; and brother-in-law (whom he loved as a brother), Johnney Crosland.
As a lifelong resident of Gaston, Lewis could be found most mornings at the Double B or Country Gas Mart drinking coffee with friends. There wasn’t much that happened in Gaston without Lewis knowing about it. His children always said “Daddy has to get up and turn the lights to Gaston on and then turn them off before going to bed”.
To know Lewis was to love him. He was a simple, kind, and gentle man. His greatest love was for his family. At gatherings you could find him laughing and talking with his grandchildren. There wasn’t a better story told than that from Paw Paw. He will be missed immensely.
Funeral services for Lewis Russ will be held 2:00pm, Friday, June 9, 2023 at State Full Gospel Church located at 200 State Pond Rd, Gaston, SC 29053. Family will receive friends from 1:00pm - 2:00pm.
