Harold Barrett Swygert, III

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Harold Barrett Swygert III, 73, of West Columbia, who departed this life on Thursday, September 25th, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on June 12th, 1952 in Greenville, South Carolina, Barrett was the beloved son of Harold Barrett Swygert, Jr. and Catherine Carr Swygert.

He was a devoted husband for 33 years to Russellette Martin Swygert; and a cherished parent to Julie McDowell (Eric) West Columbia, SC and Jay White (Christie) Florence, SC. He was the beloved Poppie to Whitlie, Weslen and Jaden.

Barrett graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School, Class of 1970. He graduated from The University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Finance in 1974. Barrett dedicated his life to the State of South Carolina as State Bank Examiner. He will be remembered for Living The Simple Life, Genuine Heart and Being a Poppie was his Favorite Job.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025 at St. David’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Greg Brown officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am for visitation prior to the service. Burial will follow at St David’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Barrett’s life. Poppie will be deeply missed, but his love and legacy will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
