Gracie Powell Yancey Fletcher Obituary

Mrs. Gracie Powell Yancey Fletcher, 96, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, at The Pines Assisted Living Community in West Columbia, South Carolina. Born in Allensville, North Carolina, on December 5, 1929, she was the daughter of Ozzie Beam Powell and Magdalene Riggen Powell.

Gracie retired after many years working as a secretary in the Counseling Office at Airport High School, where she loved working with students and their families. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Ladies’ Friendship Circle.

She taught Sunday School for the Adult Ladies’ Class at West Side Baptist Church and later at Trinity Baptist Church. Gracie loved her Lord Jesus with all her heart, soul, and strength (Deuteronomy 6:5) and was the family prayer warrior. In her spare time, she read her Bible, prayed daily for her family, watched Christian television, and kept up with world events. She was also known for her amazing vanilla cakes topped with homemade chocolate fudge icing, a favorite at family gatherings. Determined and independent, she met every challenge in life through prayer and perseverance.

Gracie, lovingly known as “Meme,” is survived by her children: Debbie Yancey Sears (James), Gregory Lee Yancey (Rebekah), Lisa Fletcher Allison (Darren) and honorary son Wallace Alexander Crosby; grandchildren: Joseph Green (Dana), Crystal Hoover (Mark Pacatang), Marcus Yancey (Kellie), and Michael Allison; and great-grandchildren: Andrew Green (Jaden), Gracen Green, Cody Hoover, Kayla Pacatang and Austin Pacatang. She is also survived by her precious sisters, Joan Hester (Durwood) and Shirley Sneed, both of Oxford, North Carolina.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ozzie B. Powell and Magdalene R. Powell; her first husband, Raymond Carlisle Yancey of Roxboro, NC; her husband, Doris Eugene Fletcher Jr. of Springdale, SC; and her sisters, Elsie Fitz (Sidney), Janie Carver (Victor), Alice Chambers, Lucille Denny (Burley), and Luna Clark (Bill).

Funeral service will be held 11am Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel. Burial will be private at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
