Gerald "Jerry" Grace Obituary

A family has lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle; a community has lost an unsung hero; but Heaven has gained a fireman.  Gerald (Jerry) Leroy Grace was reunited with his parents, Robert and Margaret, when he passed from this earth to walk with the Lord on April 7, 2021.  Born August 11, 1951, in Rochester, New York, Dad lived the past 24 years in Lexington, serving his community as a member of the Lake Murray Fire Department and was employed by the Lexington County Fire Service following his retirement from NCR/AT&T after working 42 years as a systems analyst.  Dad came to Lexington by way of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, where he lived for 13 years, raising four boys with his wife Laura and serving as a volunteer fireman with the Delaware Park Fire Company.  Before then, life brought Dad to the Chicago area where he met his bride and they started their family.  A lifelong hunter and sportsman, Dad was almost as proud to speak of his hunting trips with his brother Tom as he was of being a fireman. But the greatest joy in his life came from his children, and seeing the values he instilled in them be ever present as they grew from boys to men and even fathers of their own. He was overjoyed to become a grandfather and beamed with pride in seeing the legacy he would leave behind.  Dad served as a true role model and mentor, whose memory will not be forgotten.  His devotion to Mom was 46 years strong and formed the core of an unbreakable family.   He may be called a hero by many, but to us he will always be Dad, our biggest fan.  Be at peace Dad.  We will always love you.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Laura Grace, and their four boys; Christopher and his wife Jessica with sons Jacob and Max; Bradley; Andrew and his wife Kelli with daughter Riley; and Brian and his wife Nicole with son Brody.  Jerry is further survived by his brother Thomas and his wife Maureen with nieces Denise and Elizabeth; and sister (in-law) Linda Lavigne and her husband George with nieces Jennifer, Julie, Jackie and Janelle.  Jerry will be further missed by his brethren firefighters; all those with whom he and Laura would travel and camp, including their faithful labs Fiona and Moose; his friends in the Friday night dinner club; his golfing and hunting partners; fellow members of the Pisgah Lutheran Church; and all those who knew him.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 17th, 2021, at 2:00 PM, at the Pisgah Lutheran Church, 1350 Pisgah Church Road, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive friends following the service.
