Georgia Horrocks Obituary

Georgia LaRue Gross Horrocks, 80, of Columbia, SC, aka Grammy, aka Grandma Gravy, aka George, left this earth on Thursday, January 18, 2024. In her final moments, the earth recognized the spirit which was leaving and created a spectacular sunset display in honor of her departure.

She was born January 8, 1944 in Norristown, PA, the daughter of George LaRue and Martha Mowday (née Fageley) Gross. Georgia married husband Charles Low Horrocks, “Chick” in 1964. For a time she stayed at home raising three fine children in Allentown, PA. The family moved to Columbia, SC in 1987 and Georgia spent many years working in the mortgage department of BB&T. Georgia loved her Philadelphia Eagles, her Carolina Gamecocks, cheesesteak sandwiches, ice cream, and Utz potato chips. She lived for time spent working in her yard, and she and Chick took great pride in their gardening. She loved her family, and especially the joys of her heart, her grandsons Roper and Carter.

Georgia is survived by her husband, Chick Horrocks; a son, Charlie (Nina); two daughters, Sue (Mike) and Sheryl (Seth); two grandsons, Roper and Carter; and two grand dogs, Jack and Seamus.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her sister, Marty Mitchell in 2018.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.

In her last days, she wore a shirt, which read “Fearless.” And to her last breath, she was. In memory of Georgia, feel free to play the Pointer Sisters song “I’m So Excited” and dance in your living room.
