George Eugene "Gene" Gantt

George Eugene Gantt, 70, of Gilbert, SC, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, with burial to follow at Lexington Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.

Gene, formerly known as Lexie Eugene Ellisor, was born in South Carolina to Rosa Belle Murphy Ellisor and Lexie Eugene Ellisor. His parents divorced when he was a child and his mother later married George Wallace Gantt who adopted him changing his name to George Eugene Gantt. His father later married Edith Smith.

Gene worked for Gregory Electric Company, Inc. for 42 years. He liked fishing, hunting, and metal detecting. He was a Gamecock fan and enjoyed going to car races.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Diane Gantt; his sons, George Gantt (Michelle) and William Gantt (Angie); 6 grandchildren, Lex Gantt, Belle Kneece, Mercedes Smith, Brave Boatwright, Cade Cockrell, and Rylee Gantt. He is also survived by his father, Lexie Eugene Ellisor; half-sisters, Karen Farrow, Sharon Woodward, and Jessica Elliot; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, step-father, and step-mother.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Bailey, John McCaw, Sam McCaw, Tadgh Weed, Calvin Price, and Bill Snider. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
