Lexington-Gary Michael (Bird) Templeton, 68, entered into heavenly rest Monday, January 10, 2022 at the VA Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Gary was born June 8, 1956 in Kingsport, TN to the late Charles H. Templeton and Flora Reeves Whitman.
Gary was a US Air Force Veteran. He formerly worked for The State Newspaper, Ann Brewer Paving, and Goodwill Industries.
Gary was known for his great sense of humor. He never met a stranger, and always left you laughing or a smile on your face. Even while under hospice care he would joke with the staff and caregivers. You never asked Gary for directions because he would not give you highway numbers or street names. He would tell you a name of a building or a restaurant you would pass to get to your destination. He must have known every restaurant in the state! He loved to camp as a matter of fact he was a diehard camper. Gary would pitch his tent in places that had absolutely no hookups or running water and no recreational vehicle for him.
Gary is survived by his brother, Charles Templeton (Pat) of Gaston; sister, Peggy Kovac (Alex) of West Columbia; special friend, Kathy Moubray, of Melbourne, Florida; stepdaughters, Jessica Alligood and Ginger Moore; step grandchildren, Nathan and Natalie Furtick Jaymee and Richard Moore that he adored so much.
The family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society on www.cancer.org or by phone 1-800-227-2345 or by check to American Cancer Society P. O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City. Okla. 73123
Burial will be held at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at a later date. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family
