Freddie Lee Chaney, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully and met his Savior Jesus on the 21st of March 2026, one day shy of his 76th birthday. He was born in Columbia, SC on March 22, 1950, to the late Grover and Bessie Chaney. Freddie was a husband, father, friend and loyal member to New Hope Baptist Church. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5pm on Friday, April 17, 2026 at New Hope Baptist Church, 3254 Princeton Rd., West Columbia, SC 29170. Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
Freddie was a dedicated worker who spent much of his career in the flooring industry and was known throughout the midlands as the “Carpet Man”. His expertise in flooring made him a valued member of the community during his working years, and his work ethic earned him respect from colleagues and customers alike. Freddie loved helping others, particular those in the ministry, his church, fishing, trips to the mountains, Disney vacations, hanging out with friends and living life to the fullest.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Hida Chaney; his daughter Anita Osteen; his two sons, Travis and Preston Chaney (Jennifer Chaney); grandchildren, Kaleb Osteen, Keaton Osteen, Linda Osteen, Parker Chaney, London Chaney, Kristen Otterbacher, Kourtney Chaney, Preston Chaney Jr. and Landon Chaney; his siblings Ray “Buckshot” Chaney, Janice Chaney, Deborah Chaney, Pamelia Jackson, Paula Smith and many nieces and nephews. Their memories of Freddie's love, kindness and zeal for the Lord will keep his spirit alive.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by siblings, Ronald Chaney, Theresea Chaney, Grover Chaney, Gary Chaney and Beverly Chaney; his son-in-law, Todd Osteen; and his grandson, Christopher Chaney.
