Francis Lowell Eargle Obituary

Funeral services for Francis Lowell Eargle, 90, will be conducted at 11:00am Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church 3011 Leaphart Road West Columbia, SC 29169 with the Rev. Gina D. Metze officiating.  Burial will follow at Nazareth Lutheran Church Cemetery 1800 Nazareth Road Lexington, SC 29073.  The family will receive friends from 9:45am - 10:45am prior to the service in the Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church.  Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.

Mr. Eargle, born on January 14, 1935, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025.  Born in Lexington County, he was the son of the late Charlie Adam and Fannie Catherine Addy Eargle.  Mr. Eargle lived with his wife, Joanne, in West Columbia for 65 years.  During this time Mr. Eargle served in the United States Navy both active and reserve duty, worked for several Federal Government agencies, and grew transplantable vegetable plants for local feed and seed stores. He enjoyed growing multiple varieties of vegetables to share with friends and family.  He enjoyed Blue Grass music and wrote several songs about his childhood and life experiences.  His faith was strong.  He grew up attending Nazareth Lutheran Church and later moved his membership to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church.

Francis Eargle was an active member of the community.  He and his family attended Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church regularly and were all very active, helping with Sunday School and the youth group.  He was recognized by Lutheran Men in Mission as a Life Member.  He enjoyed watching his daughter, Kay, dance and participate in Girl Scouts and enjoyed watching his son, Wayne, play sports from elementary school through college, and taking road trips for fun.

Francis Eargle is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Kay King (Chris); son, Wayne Eargle (Sheila); grandsons, Alex King (Lauren), Adam King (Caylee), Ash King, Connor Eargle, and Hayden Eargle; and great grandchildren, Charlie King, Henry King, and Adalyn King.

He is predeceased by his father, Charlie Adam Eargle; mother, Fannie Catherine Addy Eargle; brother and sisters, Hoyt G. Eargle, Marvin Eargle, JC Eargle, Lenora Eargle, Moise Eargle, Irby Eargle, Margie Hook, Homer Eargle, and Freeda Craps; and grandson, Anderson Keaton King (Amy).

The family would like to send a special thank you to all the physicians and staff that helped care for him over the years in the Lexington Medical Center System.  A special thank you to Dr. Greg Fulcher and staff; Dr. Robert Malanuk and staff; Dr. Brandon Drafts and staff; and Fox Rehabilitation, Doris Odom (occupational therapist) and Beth Olson (physical therapist) for keeping him moving.
