Frances Barfield Obituary

Graveside services for Frances P. Barfield, 85, will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Priceville Road Cemetery with Pastor Christopher Greene officiating. Mrs. Barfield passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019.  Born in Latta, SC , she was a daughter of the late Buster Phillip Powell and Carro Brumble.
Surviving are her daughters, Diane R. Price (Russell) of Gilbert, Susan R. Byrd (Chris) of Loris, brothers, Warren Powell (Faye) of Dillon, Gerald Powell (Judy) of Dillion, Sisters Addie Hulon of Hampton, VA, Charlotte Powers of Conway and sister in law, Marie Powell of Blenheim; 6 grandchildren, Mindy C. Keisler(Denny) also of Gilbert, Summer L. Rowell (Jonathan) of West Columbia, Brandy Rogers of Whiteville, NC, Cody Stroud of Miami, FL, Savana Rogers of Loris and Brooklyn Sawyer of Whiteville, NC; 9 great-great grandchildren Sydney, Allison, Bowen, Logan, Russell James, Rebekah, Gavin, Chris and Madeline and many nieces and nephews.  Mrs. Barfield was predeceased by her husband, Walter Rogers and brother, Ronald Powell.

A graduate of Latta High School, class of 51, her dream was to be a fashion designer, but that was not to be. However, she never stopped loving beautiful clothes and critiquing the ones she didn't like. She worked at several plants in Dillon, including Dixiana Mill and then opened her own Florist.  She also volunteered with Lake View Rescue Squad.

Frances had many passions, her favorite was Christmas. She loved decorating, cooking and preparing for it.  Many years she had to be convinced to wait until November to start.  Both of her daughters have priceless memories of Christmas while growing up.  Music and dancing were also favorites.  She enjoyed all kinds of music, from bluegrass, country, to Creedence Clearwater Revival.  She taught herself to jitterbug, shag and all the modern dances.  Her dances were a joy to watch because she always had a big smile on her face.  Gardening was her greatest hobby.  Whether flower or vegetable gardening, no weed had a chance of survival.

She loved Jesus Christ and was baptized at an early age at Latta Baptist Church.
