Frances Clinton Obituary

Frances Thompson Clinton died July 12th, 2020 at the age of 82 at her home in Lexington, South Carolina due to complications of cancer.

Fran was born April 8th, 1938 in the Panama Canal Zone, Panama, to Paul Thompson and Anita Rankin Thompson.

After graduating from Balboa High School she went on to earn her nursing degree at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Upon completion, she joined the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to England Air Force Base in Alexandria, Louisiana. There she met and married her pilot husband of 58 years, Lt. Col. Richard “Dick” Clinton.

Fran was a career nurse. When she left the Air Force she worked for The American Cancer Society, Dept. of Defense School Systems, The Corps of Engineers, and most fullfillingly for Dr. David Hendler in Marietta, GA.

As an Air Force wife, Fran moved often and created homes for her ever mobile family in Fayetteville, NC; Eglin AFB, Fort Walton Beach, FL; Kadena AFB, Okinawa; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Marietta GA.  After retiring, Fran and her loving husband, Dick, spent almost 5 years on the road in their RV visiting all 50 states, Mexico and Canada. They settled in Lady Lake, FL prior to moving to their forever home in Lexington, South Carolina.

With a quick wit and beautiful smile, Fran was an adventurer at heart. Her love of travel often led to family adventures exploring the Philippines, houseboating in Ireland, a safari in Kenya, roaming around ancient ruins in Cyprus, walking the stations of the cross in Jerusalem, climbing pyramids in Guatemala, searching for quetzals in Panama, watching the salmon run in Alaska and so much more.

Aside from being an expert travel planner and navigator, Fran had a great appreciation of art. She loved painting, needlework, and designing yard and wood working projects for Dick to bring to fruition.

Fran is survived by her loving husband Dick; son Richard “D.J.” Clinton Jr. and his wife Vivian; daughters Victoria Long and Pamela Holsclaw; grandchildren Gabriela and Samantha Clinton, Deana Kellermier, Emma and Kyle Holsclaw Jr.; great grandchild Sadie Kellermier; beloved pets Chester and Ollie. She is also survived by her son in law forever, Kyle Holsclaw and wife Tiffany; honorary brother, Dr. David Hendler and wife Sandie; honorary grandsons Alan Hendler and wife Sara, Ari Hendler and wife Noelle; and honorary great grandson Brandt Hendler as well as far too many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews to list.
