Florian Gary Levitsky Obituary

Gary Levitsky, born 11/09/1952 in Hazleton, PA to Loretta and Florian Levitsky passed away after a 4-month illness. Gary was the second of five children, predeceased by brothers Robbie and Raymond.

Gary is survived by his wife of 23 years, Roxann Nevedal Levitsky; his son, Sean Levitsky and Sean’s mother, Lucille Levitsky of Athens Georgia; daughter of his heart, Elizabeth (James) McKay; and granddaughter, Sayge McKay of Lakeworth, FL; sister, Donna (Charlie) Mussoline, Cooper City, FL; and brother, Lawrence Gabriel, Buckingham, Virginia; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters in law, Joan “Buffy” (Rich) Schroeder and Shawn (Charlie) Steward.

Gary will be especially missed by his great nephews and granddaughter, who were the lights of his life, Sayge McKay and Patrick and Paxton Baranoski.

Gary was a 1970 graduate of West Hazleton High School where he loved working on the yearbook and joined the drama club. Gary was a federal employee with the post office for 31 years. Gary was a lifelong fisherman, getting the love of fishing from his father, Florian, and passing it on to anyone interested, including his son and granddaughter.

Gary and Roxann met while she was in high school and though their paths diverged, they always kept in touch. Life circumstances brought them back together, culminating in their marriage in 2002. They shared 23 wonderful years together, moving from Florida to South Carolina, searching for seasons, space and good fishing. Although they only shared 4 years together in South Carolina, it was marked with deep friendships, adventures and a wonderful church home, Grace United Methodist.

Gary never met a stranger and thrived in the friendly environment of South Carolina. Gary learned patience, grace and trust during his final illness and appreciated the genuine care and excellent treatment he received, particularly at Prisma Heart Hospital.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at 11 A.M. at Grace United Methodist Church, 410 Harbison Boulevard, Columbia, SC 29212.
