Everette Eugene Tompkins was a bright source of inspiration for countless people. Born on June 14, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 11, 2025.
Everette is predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia Tompkins; his parents, John, and Dorothy of Cleveland Ohio; and his two sisters, Lois Meyers of San Diego California and Grace Cox of Cleveland Ohio.
He is survived by his son, Jay Tompkins, Jay’s wife, Linda; his grandson, Jayson, Jayson’s wife, Lindsay; his granddaughter, Melinda and her husband, Hoyt Rowell, all of Mount Pleasant South Carolina. Everette is also survived by his two great granddaughters, Elsie and Isabelle Tompkins.
Everette was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished friend. His life was a testament to the power of love, dedication, and resilience.
Everette got married right out of service in the Navy. He was married to his wife, Virginia, for 64 years before her passing in 2015. Everette had a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Ohio University and a Master of Education degree from Harvard University. He became a teacher at La Jolla High School in San Diego California in 1960, specializing in Physics. He was also the wrestling coach for many years. After his retirement he and Virginia moved to Lexington, South Carolina to be closer to family. Everette was a volunteer tutor at Lexington High School, and he taught Sunday school at Lexington Baptist church.
Everette was a loving, kind, and selfless person. He had a great spirit and an unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He will forever be remembered. There will be a Memorial Service at Lexington Baptist Church on Sunday, September 28th. Visitation time will be at 2:00 pm and the Memorial Service at 3:00 pm.
