Edward “Ed” “Puggy” Miller Staub, Jr., 77, of Lexington, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the Agape Care Lexington Community Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Ed was the son of the late Edward M. Staub, Sr. and Marietta Davis Staub. He graduated from Dreher High School in 1966 and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Carolina in 1973. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.
Ed built a successful career in the trucking and transportation industry, where he owned and operated Southern Xpress and Southern Trucking and Transportation. In 2002, he began a new chapter with the Rainbow Book Company, sharing his love for learning by providing children’s books to schools and libraries throughout the Southeast.
For nearly fifty years, Ed was a faithful and active member of Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church in West Columbia. He served as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and volunteer in countless ministries, including the church’s Mission House. His faith was evident not only in how he worshiped but in how he lived—always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Those who knew Ed will remember his joyful spirit and infectious sense of humor. He loved to laugh, play pranks, and show children his famous “magic trick” of removing his thumb. He brought light and laughter wherever he went. Whether helping a neighbor with a home repair, offering a ride, assisting with a move, or lending a hand with yard work, Ed was happiest when he was helping others.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Connie E. Staub; his sons, Dusty Staub (Jenny) and Matthew Staub (Sarah); beloved grandchildren, Natalie Staub, Katie Staub, and Margaret Staub; and his sister, Frankie Staub Stroker.
A service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, 3050 Leaphart Road, West Columbia, South Carolina. Visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made specifically for the Mission House through the Mt. Hebron UMC GoForth Fund at https://www.osvhub.com/mthebronumc/giving/funds/goforth-project.
To honor Ed’s legacy, his family invites you to “pay it forward”—lend a helping hand, share a laugh, and show kindness whenever you can, just as he did.
