Dear Grandma/Mama,

I realized something while sitting around talking and sharing memories about you over the last few days since you left this world for your eternal home. You always knew the right moment when one of your children or grandchildren needed something, and for so many years I didn’t know about the letters you sent to everyone in your life. You had a way of making each letter to us so personal, making each of us feel special and loved in our own unique way. The reason we all felt that in your letters is because that is simply who you are, you loved with reckless abandon not only in your letters but in each and every interaction you had with all of those who were privileged enough to know you. So because your letters were so important to us we wanted to write you, not a farewell letter, but until we see you again letter. Your letters and actions made us all feel so deeply loved. Whether it be your “world famous” chicken pot pie for Sunday dinner, waffles every Wednesday before school and the best Sunday dinners made with unmatched love, a phone call every evening for years after we experienced a crippling loss in our own lives, being a mother who supported and loved unconditionally no matter what battle or issues we were going through, understanding our passions by just admiring us throwing a ball against the wall and fielding it over and over again with a glove you bought us, or pitching to us even though your body may have been tired. The greatest thing you gave to us all was Christmas Eve at your house every year, you made the holidays feel so meaningful and filled with love with every batch of fudge and every year reading the Christmas story from Luke. None of us will remember any of the presents we received, but we will always remember your passion and conviction in reading the Christmas Story each and every Christmas Eve, reminding us that the reason we celebrate the holiday is not for the gifts we received but for the opportunity to be surrounded by those we love and understand the true meaning of Christmas. We could go on and on with so many stories and memories centered around you but for now we will leave you with this. Until we meet again we will cherish and carry your beautiful legacy and the traditions you have instilled in all of us through our lives and although we all have the hope of seeing you again we will love and miss you tremendously until that day comes.

Edna Cook is survived by her sister, Bobbie Williams; sister in law, Florence Scarborough; sons, Keith Cook and Jack Cook; daughter, Tammy Finch (Mike); daughter in law, Amy Wilson (Robert); and her grandchildren, Jeremy Cook (Shawn, Austyn, Macy, and Lizzy), Tamara Barkdull (Richard), Christi Cook (Rick), Tiffany Reddick (Chris, Kylin, and Braelyn), Taylor Cook, Nickolas Cook, Michael Smith (David), and Richard Cook.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Cook; son, Mark Cook; and daughters in law, Janice Cook and Diane Cheek.

We ask that everyone wear bright colors for the service to signify the bright light that Edna brought to the world with her presence.

Funeral service will be held 2 PM Friday, June 12, 2026 at Calvary Baptist Church 724 W Main St, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive friends from 1 PM to 2 PM prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers we request that if you wish to make a contribution please do so to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of your choice. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
