Douglas Wade Williamson, affectionately known as “Duck” by his siblings and “Droopy” by his co-workers, passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on July 7, 1942, in McColl, South Carolina, and lived a life marked by adventure, reflection, and a deep love for people.
With a playful spirit and a heart full of stories, Doug often captivated those around him with tales from his years traveling the world installing turbines for Siemens and GE. His work in power generation wasn’t just a career, it was a calling. He took pride in helping bring energy and critical infrastructure to millions across the globe, and he never tired of sharing the wonders of that work with his children and anyone who would listen.
Doug served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, embodying a lifelong commitment to service and responsibility.
Doug’s life took him to many places, both professionally and personally. His career required frequent travel and long stretches away from home—something that, while demanding, allowed him to play a small part in powering the world. Though distance sometimes made things difficult, his love for his family remained constant across the miles and years.
He shared his life with two families, each deeply important to him in different chapters of his journey.
He is survived by his legally separated spouse, Cecilia Williamson; and their sons, Matthew Williamson (wife, Beth Williamson) and Michael Williamson (wife, Heather Williamson). He is also survived by his children from his first marriage to Libby Rowland, Anthony Williamson (wife, Cheryl Williamson), Tammie Williamson, and the memory of his daughter, Sherri Rollins (husband, George Rollins).
Doug was a proud grandfather to many. Matthew and Beth’s children are David, Kammi, Kaylie, Madison, and Aavya, with another blessing on the way. Michael and Heather’s children are Brantley, Landon, and Rhea. Anthony and Cheryl’s children are Justin, Jacob, Jamie, and Tyler.
Sherri, who preceded Doug in death, had two sons, George Jr. and Westley, with her husband George Rollins.
Doug is also survived by his sisters, Cathy Lynch and Ellen Winburn. He is predeceased by his brothers, Jimmy Williamson and Larry Williamson.
His co-workers gave him the nickname “Droopy” for the thoughtful look he wore when lost in reflection. It wasn’t tiredness, but the quiet depth of a man who carried stories, memories, and a sincere care for others.
Doug retired in his 60s and spent his remaining years doing what mattered most: being close to family. Whether sharing stories, offering quiet advice, or simply enjoying their presence, he cherished that time deeply. The soundtrack to many of those moments was his favorite music—Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band—whose songs echoed the heart and soul of a life well-lived.
He will be remembered as a man of deep thought, quiet strength, and unwavering love. Though his path took many turns, his heart remained steady. He gave of himself to his family, his country, and the world—and left it better than he found it.
