Dorothy G. Jumper Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Gillian Jumper, 80, of Gilbert, went home to her Lord and Savior on September 5th, 2025. She was born April 9th, 1945, to the late Vernon and Naomi Gillian.

Dorothy worked at the Imperial Casket Factory before she devoted her life to being a homemaker and farming full time alongside her husband, Lathen Jumper. The two were married on March 3rd, 1967. Dorothy and Lathen shared 58 happy years together and many hot summers farming.

She was a breast cancer survivor for 14 years and was able to share her testimony within her community. She was also an encourager for a fellow breast cancer survivor, who became her best friend, Deborah Marsh.

A faithful member of First Calvary Baptist Church, Dorothy attended services every Sunday she was able. She taught the 2-year-olds Sunday School class for 30 plus years, leaving a lasting impact on the youngest members of her church family. After church on Sundays, you could find Dorothy in the kitchen making a home cooked meal for all of her family to enjoy. This was a weekly Sunday tradition for her family. You could expect to leave her house feeling stuffed with all the delicious food and maybe even some pound cake for the road.

Dorothy enjoyed tending to her flowers, baking and spending time outside in her favorite chair. Dorothy was blessed to have five granddaughters. She loved going shopping and spending time with her three daughters.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Elvin Lathen Jumper; daughters Jan (Robert) Bray, Suzanne (Greg) McAlhaney and Ashley (Jason) Roof; granddaughters Hannah and Madison Bray, Ashlyn, Jaylyn and Carter Roof; brothers Windol (Linda) and Gerald Gillian; sister-in-law Alice Gillian; pets Louie and  Bootsie. She was preceded by her brother, Marand and her sister-in-law, Norma Gillian.

Funeral services will be held at First Calvary Baptist Church, in Leesville, on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 3:00pm, a graveside service will follow. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to thank caregiver Danielle Seals and Agape Hospice staff, especially Nurse Candi, for her support during this difficult time.

Additionally, the family would like to thank those who sent cards, food, visited, called/texted since Mom’s stroke in January. It really made her smile to see all the love expressed during this difficult time in her life. She really loved each and everyone.

Memorials can be made to the First Calvary Baptist Church Food Pantry, 2320 Cedar Grove Rd., Leesville SC 29070.

Barr Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
