Dorothy Marie Nelson

Lexington - Dorothy Marie Nelson, 90, of Lexington passed away May 27, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family. A private memorial service will be held by the family.

Dorothy was born March 13, 1931 to the late A. L. Hamilton and Della Hall Hamilton. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Dorothy is survived by her husband of 73 years, Ret. MSGT Robert L. Nelson; sons, Robert L. Nelson, Jr. (Sheila) of Lexington, Ronald L. Nelson (Sue) of Summerville; daughters, Della M. Copper (Doug) of Leesville, Denise C. Nelson (Kebin Ahrens) of Wilmington, NC; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy is predeceased by a grandson, Brian Nelson; sister, Dixie Lee; brothers, Carl, Bruce, Kenneth, Arthur, Lloyd (KIA WWII), and Bobby (KIA Korean War).

Dorothy served as Officer for DAV Chapter 4, a member of Eastern Star, member of Pine Ridge Women’s Club, member of Cayce UMC, former member of Asbury UMC, and delivered Meals on Wheels in South Congaree. She retired as a LPN with USC Student Health. She loved country music, traveling, and enjoyed the last 4 years of her life at the Village of Southlake. The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Jeff Hook, Dr. Chaudhry Nushtaq, Agape Hospice Care, and to her caregiver, Priscilla.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Dorothy’s memory to SC DAV Chapter 4 511 Violet Street, West Columbia, SC 29169. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel is assisting the family.
