Ruby Doris Weed Monts

August 10, 1931 – February 16, 2021

Ruby Doris Weed Monts, of Irmo, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in Newberry, South Carolina at Springfield Place nursing facility. She was born on August 10, 1929, in Richland County, SC. She was the oldest daughter of Berley J. Weed and Ruby Marie Weed.

Doris was a lifelong resident of Irmo and a lifetime member of Salem United Methodist Church in Ballentine, SC, where she was a member of the Carl Weed Sunday School class and a nursery assistant for many years. She graduated from Irmo High School, where she was a member of the Girl’s Varsity basketball team. Ms. Monts was employed by General Electric Company in 1956, and retired in 1992 from Philips Components where she worked as a machine operator for 36 years. She was also employed by St. Andrews Fitness Center, Gold’s Gym and the Irmo Chapin Recreation Center as a nursery and afterschool aid. In addition, she was an active member of the Boyleston Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star in Ballentine, SC, as well as, the local AARP chapter. Her hobbies included gardening, fishing and going on trips with her senior citizens group.

Doris had three children, four grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Betty Ann Weed Stokes and her daughter Ruby Diane Monts Coker. She is survived by her son, John David Monts (Karen Monts); her youngest daughter, Debra Jane Monts Ailes; her grandsons, Glenn Monts, Clay Monts (Carmen) and Dustin (Stacey) Ailes and her granddaughter Kimberly (Brandon) Stutts; great grandchildren, Blair Stutts, Bryson Stutts, Thomas Ailes, Ava Ailes, Ellie Monts and Dylan Monts.

A graveside service for Ms. Monts will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in Salem United Methodist Church in Ballentine, SC. Memorials may be made to the Children’s Ministry department at Salem United Methodist Church, 1321 Salem Church Rd., Irmo, SC 29063. Friends and family are welcome to come pay their respects and sign the guestbook at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, between the hours of 9am-5pm.
