Donald Barrington Gwyn (Barry), 80, of West Columbia, SC, was welcomed into Heaven on the evening of July 3, 2026. Barry was predeceased by his mother, Harryette Denny Addison; and his brother, Jonathan Denny Gwyn.
Barry was a 1963 graduate of Eau Claire High School. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where he served on church council. Barry was always active in the church’s music program, and sang in the church choir. Barry retired from UPS after 34 years of service. He also served in the United States Air Force Reserves.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Betty Peele Gwyn. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 23rd. He is also survived by his daughter, Candace Gwyn Edwards (Robby) and his son, Matthew Barrington Gwyn (Matt). Barry “Poppy” is also survived by his grandchildren, Madison Schumacher Yarbrough (Austin) and Emily Moore Edwards; and great grandchildren, Ryker William Lutz and Easton James Yarbrough; sisters-in-law, Cathy Gwyn and Brenda Peele Turner; and a brother-in-law, Dennis Peele. “Uncle” Barry also leaves to cherish his memory a very loving extended family of nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Donna Zeigler; and other friends beyond measure.
A service to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2491 Emanuel Church Road, West Columbia, S.C. with Reverend Adam Carnell officiating.
